I’m Sara Postma — an artist, photographer, and guide rooted in the Uintah Basin, where my creative journey began in Vernal, Utah. With over 28 years behind the camera, my work has evolved beyond the studio into something deeper and more intentional: creating art, experiences, and learning spaces that invite people to slow down, see differently, and connect with their own story.
Through my Through the Grain collection, I create handcrafted barnwood art that weaves together reclaimed wood, beadwork, and fine art photography. Each piece reflects resilience, connection, and the beauty found in life’s imperfect layers — a philosophy that now extends beyond my artwork and into how I teach and mentor others.
Alongside my creative work, I am a Certified ICF Professional Coach and High-Performance Coach, with training in trauma response and breathwork. My coaching approach supports nervous system regulation, clarity, and confidence — helping people move past what’s holding them back and toward what they’re meant to create, even if they’re not yet sure what that looks like. (And that’s okay — we uncover it together.)
Today, I bring all of these elements together through Learning Through the Grain, a photography teaching series designed for those who want more than technical instruction. My classes blend hands-on photography education, coaching, and breathwork to create an immersive learning experience — one that builds skill, confidence, and creative vision. Whether you’re just beginning or refining your craft, my goal is to help you not only learn how to use your camera, but to truly see.
Everything I offer — art, portraits, coaching, and teaching — is grounded in the belief that creativity should be deeply personal. Whether you’re commissioning a custom barnwood piece, stepping into a portrait session, or joining a photography class, my intention is always the same: to honor your story and support meaningful growth. Every detail, from the reclaimed wood I select to the way a class unfolds, is designed with care and purpose.
Through the Grain is more than a collection or a class — it’s a way of seeing.
A reminder that beauty exists in every layer, and transformation happens when we slow down enough to notice it.
I invite you to explore my work, learn alongside me, and envision what we can create together.
~Sara~
